Support Critical Wildlife Veterinary Equipment

Partner With Us to Strengthen Clinical Capacity in South Australia

The Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Centre provides dedicated wildlife veterinary care five days a week, treating hundreds of orphaned, injured and sick native animals each year.

Government funding currently supports core operational costs. However, major clinical equipment and infrastructure upgrades  - the kind that transform outcomes -  rely on community and corporate support.

We are seeking strategic partnerships with businesses, suppliers and philanthropic organisations to strengthen our diagnostic and treatment capacity for South Australian wildlife.

Why Equipment Support Matters

Wildlife arrives at our vet clinic for a range of reasons such as
• Severe trauma following dog attacks
• Life-threatening injuries from vehicle strikes
• Fractures, internal injuries and blood loss
• Advanced infectious disease
• Dehydration and systemic illness after prolonged exposure
• Orphaned joeys, particularly koalas and possums

We regularly care for dependent young animals whose mothers have been killed or injured. These orphans require warmth-controlled environments, appropriate nutrition, safe enclosures and close clinical monitoring to survive.

Many of the animals admitted to our clinic are critically unwell by the time they reach veterinary care. For these patients, both advanced diagnostic equipment and purpose-built treatment and recovery spaces can mean the difference between survival and suffering.

Modern veterinary equipment and upgraded enclosures strengthen our ability to respond effectively by improving:

• Diagnostic accuracy in trauma and disease cases
• Treatment speed during emergency presentations
• Safe, species-appropriate housing for reptiles, aquatic wildlife and dependent young
• Animal welfare outcomes through reduced stress and environmental stability
• Survival rates and successful return to the wild
• Clinical efficiency, allowing us to treat more injured native animals across South Australia

Investment in specialised equipment and infrastructure directly increases our treatment capacity and improves outcomes for wildlife in our state.

Why Partner with Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Centre?

The Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Centre is a registered Deductible Gift Recipient, and all donations over $2 are tax-deductible in Australia.

We are not a sanctuary or tourist attraction — we are a clinical wildlife veterinary service, focused on humane treatment, recovery and return to the wild. Each year we provide free veterinary care to injured native animals, including approximately 400 koala consults annually.

By supporting equipment and infrastructure, your organisation contributes to measurable improvements in:

• Survival outcomes
• Treatment capacity
• Animal welfare standards
• Community impact across South Australia

Partnering with us is more than philanthropy. It is a commitment to environmental stewardship, corporate social responsibility, and measurable local outcomes.

Current Priority Equipment Needs

Ultrasound Machine

A modern ultrasound system allows rapid, non-invasive internal assessment of trauma patients and improved diagnostics for abdominal injury and disease.

Enhanced imaging capability supports faster clinical decision-making and reduces stress for wildlife patients.  This is a high priority item.

Reptile Enclosures (Heating & Lighting Equipped)

Purpose-built reptile housing with appropriate heating, lighting and thermostatic control is essential for recovery of larger lizard species.

Environmental stability is critical for wound healing and metabolic recovery in reptiles.

Turtle Treatment Tanks

Properly designed turtle tanks with drainage, heating and lighting allow safe rehabilitation of aquatic species.
Dry-dock capability is essential for shell injury management and wound care.

Priority Clinical Program

Koala Chlamydia Diagnostic Support

Annual funding requirement: $7,000

Our clinic conducts in-house chlamydia testing using rapid diagnostic technology alongside PCR swab testing. This allows early detection, timely treatment and informed welfare decisions.

Annual consumables are required to maintain this capability.

Funding this program directly supports:

• Rapid in-clinic screening
• Confirmatory PCR integration
• Earlier treatment initiation
• Monitoring of therapeutic response
• Improved survival outcomes for koalas

Without funded consumables, in-house rapid testing capacity is reduced.

Corporate partnership ensures continued disease management capability for South Australian koalas.  Learn more about koalas and their treatment at our Centre.
